In a stunning display of skill and determination, Marc Márquez has returned to the top step of the MotoGP podium at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, ending a drought that stretched back to 2021.
The eight-time world champion, now riding for Ducati after his long stint with Honda, showed flashes of his old brilliance throughout the weekend. Qualifying on the front row, Márquez made a perfect start and engaged in a thrilling battle with championship leader Francesco Bagnaia.
The decisive moment came with five laps remaining when Márquez executed a breathtaking overtake at the fast Turn 5, sliding his Ducati past Bagnaia's machine with millimeters to spare. From there, he gradually built a small but decisive gap to take the checkered flag.
An emotional Márquez dedicated the win to his team and family who supported him through multiple surgeries and difficult seasons. 'This victory means more than any championship,' he said in the post-race press conference, fighting back tears.
The result throws the championship wide open, with Márquez now just 25 points behind Bagnaia with 15 races remaining in the season.
